EDUCATION

Students living within the neighborhoods of San Antonio Northeast are served by the schools of the North East Independent School District (North East ISD), Judson ISD, and the Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD. Located in Bexar County, North East ISD is comprised of 43 elementary schools, 18 middle schools, and 20 high schools, including 19 “Exemplary” schools. North East ISD also features a National Exemplary After-School Program to stimulate educational prosperity amongst its students while also providing youths a safe environment in which to learn. Judson ISD is made up of eight pre-K-5 schools, seven K-5 schools, four middle schools, and two high schools. Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD includes seven elementary schools, three middle schools, two junior high schools, and three high schools. Private and parochial school options are also available for students throughout Bexar County.

For students and adult learners who are ready to make the jump into a collegiate environment, the Greater San Antonio area is home to some of the best colleges and universities in the country, where over 100,000 students are reported to attend. Some of the area’s institutions of higher learning include the University of Texas at San Antonio, St. Mary’s University, Our Lady of the Lake University, Trinity University, and Wayland Baptist University.

ECONOMY & JOB MARKET

As the home to five Fortune 500 companies, the booming metropolitan city of San Antonio provides residents of San Antonio Northeast with a diversified economy. The financial services, government, health care and tourism sectors greatly contribute to the overall economy and job market of the area. The military and defense sectors also contribute to the overall economy, as Fort Sam Houston, Lackland Air Force Base, Port San Antonio and Randolph Air Force Base are all within proximity to the area.

ATTRACTIONS & POINTS OF INTEREST

Residents looking to take care of all their retail and shopping needs don’t have to look any further than The Forum, known to locals as one of the city’s largest shopping centers. Rolling Oaks Mall also caters to area residents and is located on the I-35 at Nacogdoches Road and Loop 1604.

Sports fanatics will be happy to know that San Antonio is the home to some of the best sports teams on this side of the Mississippi. Fans can head on over to the AT&T Center to cheer on the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs, WNBA’s San Antonio Silver Stars, and the NHL’s San Antonio Rampage, or to the Nelson W. Wolff Municipal Stadium to root for the San Antonio Missions, a Double-A Minor League Affiliate of the San Diego Padres baseball team. The Alamo City Rugby Football Club and the San Antonio Rugby Football Club also play for the city.

If you’re looking to partake in some tourist attractions and other points of interests, be sure to head on down to the River Walk in downtown San Antonio. The Arneson River Theatre is also located in downtown, which hosts a number of holiday and cultural festivals throughout the year. The Alamo is another popular spot to visit, as is Sea World, which is about 20 miles west of downtown San Antonio. Other areas of interest include the Cathedral of San Fernando, The Majestic Theatre, the Spanish Governor’s Palace, the San Antonio Museum of Art, the Woodlawn Theatre, San Antonio Zoo, Menger Hotel, Emily Morgan Hotel, the San Antonio Calvary Museum, and the Fairmont Hotel.

GOLF

Residents of San Antonio Northeast will be pleased to know that plenty of recreational activities await them in and around the area. Avid golfers interested in playing a round or two out on the links can do so at the Randolph Oaks Golf Course. Randolph Oaks is an 18-hole championship course measuring over 7,100 yards from the championship blue tees, and features its own on-site snack bar, full-service club repair, lighted driving ranges, and putting greens. The course is open to active duty and retired military members, dependents, civil service employees, and non-appropriated fund employees. Other golf courses available in the San Antonio Northeast area include the Woodlake Golf Club, Rolling Oaks Golf Club, Olympia Hills Golf and Conference Center, Windcrest Golf Club, Northern Hills Country Club, Willow Springs Golf Course, Quarry Golf Club, and Fort Sam Houston Golf Course. Residents can also head out to San Antonio to enjoy the many miles of trails, open green spaces, and designated equestrian areas.
